Fun things kids do

Rook finally has his big boy bed. He doesn't get
out of it until I come and get him. When I put him
in bed he says, "no get out bed, go Time out. No tools
right now, no basketball right now". I say...good job.
He sleeps in it like a crib, every which way. Good
thing there are guard rails.

Alexa loves to play in her exersaucer. Thanks Alisyn
and Ty for the loan. A good chunk of her awake time is
in this thing. She grabs everything and tries to put it
in her mouth.

So we have a no screaming inside rule at our house.
You can scream outside all you want...so when Rook
and his friend Isaac were screaming inside right before
bed time, I said, "Do you want to sleep outside? If you keep
screaming you're going to have to sleep outside". He
ran upstairs and brought down his pillow, blanket, and
dog, snuggles (Joe named it) and laid down on the cement.
He even shut the door. I laughed so hard.

Alexa really needed her own room for a while and
she outgrew the bassinet. I really didn't want her in
our room anymore so I started putting her in the
pack n play in the laundry room and it worked out
great. So when Rook got his big boy bed, we just
moved the crib in there and she has her own little
room. I can even do laundry and she sleeps right
through it. She started sleeping all night as soon
as I started putting her in there too...

Well I didn't think anyone could drool as much as
Rook did...but I was sooooo wrong. Alexa is every bit
a drooler as Rook ever was. Her poor clothes are
destined to stink. She is still the sweetest baby girl
ever.

Rook said his first prayer the other day all by himself.
He said Hemly Fodder, Thank you garbage can and trucks.
Please help daddy school, come home play tennis Rook.
Jesus Amen.

Lauryn is getting married in 2 weeks. I'm so excited for her.
I get to make her wedding cake. Any suggestions on Frosting
that I can make really smooth, without using Fondant?

I've been tagged

So I think I can do all of these except including the links
to the people I tagged...Don't know how to do that.
1-I'm not very original. Any great idea I have, I get from
someone else. Like that I used to squat 300 pounds. Becky
shared her squat weight on her blog and I thought, well I bet
alot of people don't know that about me either. Does that count for 2?

2-One of my first jobs was selling Avon with my sister Alisyn.
We mostly just wanted to get free stuff and samples and weren't
very good at it.

3-I was 30 when I got married and am having my kids now when
most of my friends are all done with theirs.

4-My husband is in Medical School here in Las Vegas. I am what
you call a med school widow...especially this week with block finals...

5-I was on the track team for BYU and got a scholarship for
throwing the hammer. What is the hammer you say?
It's the ball and chain thing that you spin around and throw
all while yelling as loud as you can.
I was never Olympic material, but I had fun.

6-I love to do home improvements. I just finished painting the
downstairs bathroom after we ripped up the floor from a sewage leak.
I laid some pretty slate too and it's almost ready to be put back together.

7-Thanks to student loans, I'm on welfare and Medicaid. I know
you're all jealous but all you have to do is quit your jobs
and go back to school.

I tag Kirstyn who needs to update her blog really bad,
Anna, Tiffany, Brandi, Brandy, Nicki, and Mattie

Happy Fall

So we don't have kids going back to school and all that,
but Fall has brought so many fun things.
Rook loves to play with Alexa. He reads to her and
shows her all of his toys and still occasionally lays on
top of her.

Today was our Trunk or Treat. Rook had such a fun
time saying trick or treat to everyone and wanted to open
all of his candy right then. He was a cute M&M and Alexa
was a mini me. She had lots of fun too and slept most of the time.
It was a nice 90 degrees today...

We went to Gilcrease Orchard to pick apples and pumpkins
last week and there was 1 single apple on all the trees. Rook picked
it and carried it around like a baby. We would not let go of it or let
it out of his sight. He also picked this baby pumpkin, since all the big
ones were gone. Mental note, go by October 1st next year...
We went to a pumpkin carving get together in our neighborhood
and Rook carved his pumpkin all by himself and had a blast.
Joe carved our big pumpkin and totally got into it. I was surprised.

Happy Birthday Rook

So why did I put the cake on the floor? Well it seemed like
a good idea at the time. The presents were there, everyone
was sitting on the couches...Joe jokingly said, now Rook,
go and step in the cake...and he did.

Joe's brother Johnnie helping me clean him up while
Joe took as many pictures as he could. We all laughed so hard.

So Rook got this great basketball hoop from Kid to Kid
and my parents gave him this ball. We let him play inside
for a bit...and then moved it outside to our huge yard...
He says, "play side (outside) mommy, beecaball poop".
I just haven't wanted to work with him to learn hoop. It's
too cute.

John and Mattie gave Rook the huge Mr. Potato head.
(It must be an Idaho thing...) Rook asked me to help him
build a mom, dad, Lex, and Rook. So I put all the eyes in a pile
and all the noses, etc. He built me with all eyes...he was so proud
of it. He made a complete family and explained them all to me.

Here's super Rook in his new jammies from
Grandma Weatherly. It has a "Dump it Truck" on them
and he wants to wear them every night...luckily sometimes
they're in the washer.

So his birthday is today, even though we had a little party when everyone was here for Alexa's blessing. We wanted him to feel special too. We sang to him again today and he had alot of fun practicing holding up 2 fingers and saying 2 to anyone who would listen.
We can't believe our baby is 2. And we have another baby. We're old.

Happy Anniversary

Well 4 years ago I did the best thing I've ever done...
Married Joe in the temple. Each year that goes by
I realize more and more how much I need him and how
perfect he is for me...Things that only come out when you
have a baby...or lose a baby. I'm closer to the Savior because
of my wonderful companion.

So what are we going to do on our 4th anniversary?
Dinner at Olive Garden and hit the driving range. We
can't afford to play golf...so we'll just play our putting games.
And we'll dream of one day doing something really cool...

Alexa's Blessing

Here is sweet Alexa on her blessing day.
My and Joe's parents both came down
as well as Joe's brother John and my sister
Eryn and her family. We had a great time and Joe
did a fabulous job. He blessed Alexa with the gift
of faith and to be a lifelong missionary.
It was very special to hear.

She really is this sweet.

Grandma and Grandpa stayed for a few days and
finished the backyard and fixed a few things around
the house. Rook is loving his new basketball hoop, ball
and sandbox. Thank you Grandpa!

We are sooo glad Mom and Dad are home. Don't
they look so fabulous!

Trip to Utah

After my parents got home we had parties at everyone's
home. Sat was Corwyn and Kelly's home. They had a beach
party. It was great weather, but since we're used to 110 degrees
Rook was shivering after 15 minutes of playing in the water.

Sunday we went to Kirstyn's house. Sorry no pictures.
Monday we went to Thanksgiving Point for Sisley's
birthday party. Rook had lots of fun playing with the
cousins and running around. He loved the Dino Dig.

Here we are being eaten by the prehistoric Shark.
That was about the only time I could get Rook to sit still.

Rook was scared at first of the Pony Ride but after the
first time, he was a pro and still talks about it.

Tuesday was Rustyn and Angela's house.
Alexa is getting a little TLC from Grandpa.
Wednesday was Alisyn and Ty's house. We had
so much fun and played lots of games.
I got to visit some of my friends from BYU and
Memphis and Nu Skin. I really enjoyed my visit
but missed my husband. We called each other more
and more as the days went on. We were glad to finally
make it home.

Welcome home Mom and Dad

Of course they had to be the very last people on the
plane...so we all waited in the lobby of the International
Terminal for over an hour...Everyone loved us..
But we didn't care...we were SOOO happy to see them.

Ga-Ga is Grandma in Zulu. They looked so good
and we had such a nice reunion. We missed them.

Here's Alisyn and Sisley getting reacquainted with Grandpa.

Lauryn holding Eryn's Mary and Jonnie...Lauryn's
fiance. Nov 29th is the big day.

Joe had to stay home for school so I had to take the
pictures...which means I didn't get any of me, Rook and
Alexa with Grandma and Grandpa. Oh well...they came
down to visit us here in Las Vegas so we made up for that.

LIfe goes on...

Here's Alexa at 8 weeks. She is such a good baby.
She sleeps great, 7 hours at night, then feeds and 3 more.
She smiles all the time and is getting on a pretty
regular schedule.

We're trying to finish the backyard. So Joe
and his dad put a concrete slab in the corner
and then leveled the dirt and layed some turf.

Our city encourages people to put in fake grass
so we're all about saving money on water...
too bad the turf was so expensive. On the other
corner we'll leave a dirt box for Rook.

Joe is full swing in school again and I'm adjusting
to having 2 kids. They really are sweet kids...
I'm not sure where they get it.

My parents come home this Friday from their
mission in South Africa. We're so excited to see them.

How do they compare?

Rook, just a few hours after birth. Notice the tongue.

Alexa, a few hours after birth.
I think they have some definite differences and similarities.

Alexa Bree

Breech babies have a hard time straightening out
after birth.

Here she is after Joe gave her a bath.
I didn't get to see her or hold her for about 3 hours.

On the way home from the hospital.
Rook calls her baby Alecka.

Luckily Joe's parents were here and were able to take care of Rook.
He had so much fun working in the backyard with Grandpa.

She was 8 pounds even and they measured her at 19 inches, but since she was breech (Bree) they couldn't stretch her very well. Today at the Dr she was 20 and 1/2 inches long. I don't think she grew an inch and a half in a week.

The C-section was tolerable. The Dr forgot to tell me not to eat for 8 hours...so we had to wait until 830pm. Unfortunately, I went into labor anyway and my contractions we're about 3 minutes apart, but they couldn't give me anything. My body goes into shock when I'm in labor so I had the whole shaking and teeth chattering going on until the anesthesiologist came and drugged me up. I found out later there was a semi-emergency C-section that took my spot and I ran into her in the hallway a few days later. She told me if it weren't for someone who ate an apple after they were supposed to, she would have had 3 more hours of total pain...I told her how much I love me some apples. We bonded.

Now that it's over, I'm slowly healing. My incision seems to be too swollen and a little red so I'm on antibiotics for infection there. Pretty much I couldn't move without help for 4-5 days. Now, a week later, I feel alot better.

Alexa is a great nurser and sleeps very well. She doesn't cry and just sort of squeeks when she wants to eat. So different from the Rookasaurus.

A little SURPRISE

My ward through me a little shower since
I'm having my first girl. It was so fun and
she gots lots of cute outifts and a really nice swing.
I went in for a little ultrasound to check for fluid and saw that the baby is breech. So instead of being induced on Monday...C-section. Not what I had planned, but I'm feeling less scared as the days go by. Any words of wisdom?

We're getting closer

So here I am a few weeks before delivery.
I'll be induced on the 21st if she doesn't come before.
Since I live down here away from family...I'm
putting this on here...Don't make me regret it!

Rook loves to give kisses. He puckers his lips up
really well. After every prayer he has to kiss us both.
It's so cute. At night, he kisses me good night and
then blows kisses until I shut the door.

Rook is our little fish this year. He's not quite 2,
but fearless. I'm okay as long as he has his
floaties on. He swims as fast as I do...which makes it
hard to catch him.

We're enjoying these last few weeks of a 1 child family.
Joe starts school again in 3 weeks so we're trying to do
some fun things before the misery starts...new baby and
school. Like...we go swimming...and what else? Oh yeah,
we're totally broke, so we watch lots of movies that are
really, really old.

Rook is talking up a storm. He tries to say everything now
and that gives us some good laughs. It really bugs Joe when
he's feeding Rook and Rook says, "all done, Mom" and I'm
not even home. He's been getting really good at colors too. So
instead of shovel, now it's yellow shovel. And he has to repeat
everything until you acknowledge that you hear him. He'll say
Mom Elbow 10 times, getting louder and louder until I say,
Yep, that's mommy's elbow. Then he does Cheek or truck or
bike...it's so fun to be home all day with such a smart boy...

A little obsessed

So Rook could play with this toolbox for HOURS
and did after Church on Sunday. I used it in sharing
time, afterwhich I broke down in the hallway and
couldn't go back in to get it.
I have 3 sunbeam classes and one of my teachers
didn't come. I had already gotten a sub for another
one and so I split the classes into 2 and each one
had 15 three year olds. The Deacons tried to move
them to another classroom...the gym and I said
no way! The pianist wasn't there and the chorister
didn't know the songs planned or what time primary ended.
Thanks to miscommunication from me.
In one of my 2 nurseries 2 of the 3 people didn't come
because their parents were in a car accident on their mission
(maybe you read about it in the Church News) and I didn't
know about it. I'm already 1 person short in the other nursery
so I was scrambling trying to find help for them all while
doing sharing time. So yeah, broke down in the
hallway after sharing time. Luckily, The 2nd Counselor
in the Bishopric saw me and he's the one over Primary.
He got all my teachers called before the 3rd hour was over.
Sometimes good things happen when you're 7 months
pregnant and can't control your tears!

So I keep making these blankets because they're
so easy and cute. This one was actually a little harder
but turned out cute anyway. Rook is pointing out
my mistakes...I guess he comes by his obsessiveness
honestly.

Newest stuff with us

So...this picture isn't about my neatly stacked
closet...but the baby oil splatterings all over the
walls. Who knew baby proof...didn't really mean
Rook proof?

Rook is obsessed with "buttons". He loves
to play buttons with daddy before bed. Too bad
it doesn't happen very often...free time for me!

So I've been making these rag quilts for my sisters
and sisters in law who are all having babies. This
one is for me and they're so easy. Tell me
if you want to learn.

Maridyn in all her splendor...28 weeks.
Are we there yet?
